In his sole exhibition Putut displayed 16 of his latest works. He intentionally choose the distorted body subject matter and inclined to experience abstraction to indicate the modern human being isolation. Indeed, at a glance his work seemed like an abstract painting full with coloured brush strokes and space divisions. However, if further looked into, there are a lot of body problems penetrating in his works.
According to the exhibition curator, Rizki A. Zaelani, Putut’s painting is based on portrait painting tradition being transformed in the body gesture (male). But Putut does not make realist paintings of his models. Instead mixed a few image and diversified forms taken from several photography image sources.
“As if Putut erase the narration aspect from those image which he had piled up, and have it connected in the body image unity being the subject matter. He tried to trace it artistically, running into various narrative images which could refer to several life experiences as space occurrence of a personal nature,” as written by Rizki in the exhibition curatorial.
Putut through his works made efforts to present combining effect and isolation form coincidentally so that the output would be a poetic visual experience. Human figures being abstracted in his painting are fully occupied with social, cultural and contemporary community issues.
Patut was born in Semarang on February 5, 1964. He has worked as a Visual Editor for a newspaper in Semarang. He was once graphic designer. Afterwards decided to be a professional painter. He was one of the initiators of contemporary art in Semarang city. He participated several times in joined exhibitions among others in Semarang, Surabaya, Yogya, Denpasar. He once became a finalist of a peace poster competition organized by Limpad Foundation (2000) and finalist of Philip Morris painting competition.
